- AVANT GARDE #2, WITH 12 MARILYN MONROE
AVANT GARDE #2, WITH 12 MARILYN MONROE SERIGRAPHSThe second issue of Avant Garde magazine (March 1968), containing a portfolio of twelve serigraphs of Marilyn Monroe by Bert Stern. The issue measures 11 1/4" x 10 3/4". Bert Stern was a noted photographer, and he held the distinction of being the last person to photograph Ms. Monroe, in their famous 1962 photo shoot at Hollywood's Bel Air Hotel. Nevertheless, Stern was unsatisfied with the "technical limitations of photography, [because those photos] never quite communicated the dazzling image of Marilyn that existed in my mind's eye at the time I photographed her." Thus, he created the series of serigraphs which make up the centerpiece of Avant Garde #2.
Condition
The craft paper front cover is very gently bowed at the corners, and some of the pages inside are somewhat darkened, as they are mildly acidic in nature. But the serigraphs each appear to be in very good condition.
